Classroom Resources

A free STEM/STEAM classroom resource is available for educators. This the perfect chance to talk about the environment with younger generations as they learn about ecological health, practice engineering design thinking, and increase their spatial understanding.

Students will explore the environmental conditions on Mars by designing their ideal backyard as if they are the planet’s first human colonizers. Then, they follow the model of architects, engineers, and scientists in conducting an Environmental Impact Statement (EIS)-type assessment to analyze the effects their design concepts would have on the Martian environment.

The Curriculum Guide meets National Learning and Common Core Standards for geography, science, and visual and language arts, as well as Next Generation Science Standards for earth systems and engineering design.
